Puri – the holy land of Lord Jagannath is the most sacred town and a renowned pilgrimage site in Orissa. Puri is around 60 km away from Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Orissa. It is famous for Jagannath Temple – the temple of Lord Jagannath, one of the most popular temples of the world established in the 12th century. Puri Temple or Jagannath Temple 

Lord Jagannath Temple is the main attraction of Puri, famous as one of the four Dhams in India along with Dwarka, Badrinath, and Rameswaram. It is a very big temple visited by people from all parts of the world throughout the year. The best time to visit the temple is in the mornings around 8-9 when you will be able to go close to the deity of Lord Jagannath or post-lunch i.e, 4-5 in the evening. One of the main attraction of this temple is the Bhoga distributed here.

Puri Orissa is also known for a number of other major attractions in and around Puri like Konark sun temple that signifies the glory of the sun. Chilika Lake –one of the largest coastal lake in India and largest inland saltwater lagoon in Asia is famous for its rich aquatic life and native and migratory birds. In addition, Udaigiri and Khandagiri Caves, Bhubaneswar, Nandankanan are also famous places to explore.

Sea-shells and oysters are available in large quantity. You can go on shopping in the colorful bazaars and stalls near the sea beach. Palm leaf paintings, patta chtra, wood carving, stone crafts can be purchased from Puri. The sand art created on the beach are amazing to look at. One can not stop appreciating the skills of the artist.

Puri’s weather is influenced by sea as it’s a coastal district and lies in the Banks of Bay of Bengal.  The climate of Puri with pleasant winters, hot summers, and heavy rainfalls makes the months from October to April the most feasible time to visit Puri.

How to Reach Puri Orissa

By Air:  The nearest airport to Puri is Bhubaneswar Biju Patnaik airport with flights connecting major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

By Road: Main cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Konark are directly connected with Puri Orissa by road. There are also direct buses for Kolkata and Visakhapatnam.

By Train: Puri has a railway station having direct trains from New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Tirupati etc.

Orissa may be known as a small eastern state in India, but Puri has a high recall value globally for its Temples, Beaches, sightseeing and various other attractions. One must visit Puri at least once in their lifetime.
