Lachung: Beautiful Summer Getaway

‘The most picturesque village in Sikkim’, aptly said by British explorer Joseph Dalton Hooker in his work, ‘The Himalayan journal’. The village of Lachung is the most beautiful mountain village in Sikkim. It is jeweled by snow clad mountain peaks, thunder waterfalls, pristine lakes and streams along with the apple orchards. Tourists from all over the world visit Lachung to explore the beauty of snow clad mountains and to experience the feeling of heaven under the Himalaya’s.

Location of the mountain village: Lachung

It is located in the northeast of Sikkim, India. The mountain village of Lachung is at the height of around 9,600 ft. along with the confluence of River Lachung, tributaries of the River Teesta.

Places to visit in Lachung:

Though there aren’t ample places to explore here, yet there are certain places one should not miss. Such few places are as follows:

1. Yumesamdong (zero point):

Zero point is one of the top spot of tourist places. Zero point offers the breath taking view which cannot be described in words.

2. Yumthang valley:

Yumthang valley is another popular tourist destination. The beauty of Yumthang valley in the month of October, November, April and May is just marvelous due to the spring and snow and is one of the best scenic places in India. There are also various treks which start from the yumthang valley. The place support few of the adventures or the youngsters. The place is also famous for skiing activities.

3. Lachung monastery:

Lachung gompa, is one of the scenic gompa in whole of Sikkim. The monastery is very ancient and thus have historical significance.

4. Rhododendron sanctuary:

The sanctuary offers the glimpse of various flowers of Sikkim. During the early summers, those flowers bloom completely and thus offers the breath-taking view.

There are various hotels for vacations and night stays. Yarlam, Hotel Season house, The Fortuna etc. are few of the good hotels.

How to reach:

Lachung falls under military area and thus a prior permission is required, 1-2 days before the journey. It can be accessed by four wheelers only from Gangtok. The distance from Gangtok to Lachung is 120kms and the route has stunning and scenic views all over.

Lachung has gained lots of popularity due to the sudden boost in tourism and to see the scenic beauty of various spots like Yumthang valley. One should not miss the beautiful chance of exploring the glimpse of heaven once in Sikkim.
