A soft dismissal indeed! Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni surprised everyone with his announcement of the retirement from the test cricket. After him, Virat Kohli will be the next skipper for tests. The statement came from BCCI just after India played draw with Australia on Tuesday. However, Dhoni didn’t announce it in the press conference after the match, being the “Captain Cool”.
This has shocked many former cricketers and moreover it has brought a huge distress among his fans. Many people see his decision as an outcome of successive failures in test matches abroad. Team India was not able to perform well at international pitches in test matches. Among 60 test matches which he played as captain, India won 27 matches while lost 18 of them. Moreover 15 matches were played draw. However the stats are not that good, but Dhoni has got the best record as a captain of Indian Cricket team.
BCCI stated that” MS Dhoni has made his mind to retire immediately from Test Cricket however, he will continue to play in ODI’s and T20’s”. “He took this decision so that he can focus on the other cricket format. We show our gratitude for his great contribution to Test Cricket” they added.
He played 90 test matches for Indian cricket team and made 3454 runs, which is the highest among all the previous skippers of India. With the average of 38.09, this guy always sustained the potential to take his team to winning mark. His strategies have been influential being the responsible captain.
Before this, many experts suggested that this might be the right time for Dhoni to hand over this responsibility to Virat Kohli. India became a No.1 team in ICC rankings under his captainship and his contribution to Indian cricket team is immense which cannot be replaced.
