One of the popular legends says that the place was the domain of Lord Shiva which later was taken by Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva shifted to Kedarnath. The mountains of Badrinath were even referred in Mahabharata. It is said that the Pandavas passed through the holy town of Badrinath and Mana while on their way to heaven. It is also said that Lord Vishnu performed his penance in Badrinath. Thus, there are many such legends linked to the significance of the place.

Best time to visit for Badrinath Yatra is between May to October, though it is not advisable to travel in monsoons because of the landslides and bad roadside. After Diwali, the temple doors are closed and the idols are shifted to Joshimath. Badrinath is covered with snow for six months and chilled throughout the year, so it is advisable to carry woolen clothes during the trip.

By air:

By road:
Badrinath is well connected with the good roads and with all destinations of Uttarakhand and India. Buses and taxis are easily available from any part of Uttarakhand to Badrinath.
By rail:
Rishikesh railway station is the nearest to Badrinath and it is well connected with other railway stations of Uttarakhand with daily rails.
